Associate Barrister (Employed)

An opportunity has arisen for an Associate Barrister to join an established in-house advocacy team within a leading UK law firm.
The role offers exposure to a varied advocacy caseload, with responsibility for managing matters from an early stage, supported by appropriate supervision and administrative support.
The Role
The successful candidate will undertake advocacy and case preparation across a range of civil and tribunal matters, including:
- Conducting advocacy in civil courts, tribunals and inquests (subject to rights of audience)
- Preparing statements of case, skeleton arguments, applications and appeal documentation
- Advising on procedural and strategic issues
- Managing deadlines and compliance with court directions
- Undertaking legal research and developing case strategy
- Preparing for mediations and settlement discussions
- Maintaining accurate case records and time recording
- Supporting junior advocates where appropriate
Practice Areas
Work may include matters relating to:
- Civil litigation
- Crime
- Education
- Employment
- Regulatory proceedings
- Inquests
Experience in one or more of these areas would be advantageous but is not essential.
Candidate Profile
Suitable candidates are likely to demonstrate:
- Qualification as a barrister in England & Wales
- Experience preparing court and tribunal documentation
- Confidence managing their own caseload with supervision
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- A practical and commercially aware approach
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with court and tribunal procedures
- Experience using case management systems
- Competence with Microsoft Office and legal research platforms
- Strong attention to detail
