An established legal practice in Nottingham is seeking a Law Costs Draftsperson to support its thriving Public Law & Community Care department, specifically within Judicial Review work.
This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-driven professional with solid experience in legal costs to join a supportive team and contribute to high-profile public law matters.
Role Overview
As a Law Costs Draftsperson, you’ll be responsible for:
- Preparing Legal Aid billing: Legal Helps, POAs, and Final Claims
- Drafting Inter-Partes bills and negotiating settlements
- Lodging bills at court and preparing Schedules of Costs
- Managing High Cost Case Plans and responding to LAA queries
- Handling appeals and rejected claims
- Ensuring compliance with Legal Aid KPIs and internal procedures
- Liaising with Counsel’s Chambers and internal fee earners
- Supporting administrative functions as needed
Candidate Profile
Required:
- Qualified Costs Lawyer or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated ability in Legal Aid and Inter-Partes cost drafting
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy with figures
- Proven ability to manage high-volume claims efficiently
- Confident working independently and within a team
- Proficient in Case Management Systems and CCMS
Desirable:
- Familiarity with judicial review billing
- Knowledge of court cost assessment procedures
- Understanding of Legal Aid Agency rules and processes
