Legal Counsel – Commercial & Technology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join a growing, purpose-led financial services organisation undergoing significant transformation.

This is a newly created role, offering high visibility and genuine influence across strategic initiatives. Reporting into the Head of Legal, you will act as a trusted advisor to the business, supporting key decision-making and enabling major programmes of change—particularly across technology, digital transformation, and operational resilience.

You’ll operate in a broad, business-facing position with exposure to senior stakeholders and a diverse range of legal matters, combining day-to-day advisory work with involvement in high-impact strategic projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice across a wide range of areas including commercial contracts, corporate matters, data protection, and regulatory issues
• Lead on the negotiation and delivery of complex supplier, partner, and customer agreements, with a strong focus on technology and outsourcing arrangements
• Support major strategic initiatives and transactions, including treasury-related activity and transformation programmes
• Partner closely with stakeholders across the organisation to enable growth while managing legal and regulatory risk
• Oversee and manage external counsel to ensure high-quality, cost-effective support
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments, translating changes into actionable business guidance
• Contribute to the development of legal processes and frameworks to enhance efficiency and risk management
• Support and mentor junior team members as part of a collaborative and developing legal function

About You:

• Qualified solicitor with circa 5+ years’ PQE, ideally gained in-house and/or in private practice
• Strong grounding in commercial and contract law, with experience advising on complex, high-value agreements
• Exposure to technology, digital, or outsourcing arrangements would be highly advantageous
• Working knowledge of UK data protection legislation; broader financial services or consumer finance experience is beneficial
• A confident communicator with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of an organisation
• Commercially astute, solutions-focused, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior colleagues is welcomed
